Services We Provide
Here at the Wish Valley Surgery we endeavour to provide as higher quality service as possible to meet our patient’s varied needs. As part of this we have many different additional clinics and services which you can take advantage of. Covering everything from immunisations to family planning these clinics and services are available to all our patients. If you are interested in any of these clinics or services, please ask your GP or via reception.
Our Practice Nurses holds the regular clinics for patients with the following conditions to monitor and help manage their health:
Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease, Asthma and chronic respiratory conditions, support for patients who have suffered strokes, and Hypertension. They also offer annual reviews for patients who suffer from thyroid or mental health problems and epilepsy.
Depending on your age, smears are done every three or five years. They are usually carried out by the practice nurse. A reminder is sent to you when you are due.
Child Development Checks
Your baby’s six week development checks are carried out at the same time as your postnatal check.
This is shared between the GP’s and Practice Nurses. They can advise on all methods of contraception – also pre-conception advice. Two of our lady doctors can do coils and implant fittings by appointment. We also offer advice and consultation on emergency contraception.
Flu and Pneumonia Vaccinations
These are free of charge and available to all patients who are eligible. Please ask for details.
Advice on healthy eating – Some problems can be caused by being overweight, lack of exercise and poor eating habits. Our Practice Nurses can help and advise you by looking at all these issues in order to help you feel better and therefore improve your health.
Smoking – This is still the largest preventable cause of ill health in this country, including cancer, heart and lung disease. Our Practice Nurses will be able to advise and guide you through the difficult job of stopping smoking and will support you with the help of nicotine replacements if this is what is required.
Immunisations for adults, children and travel is available. We advise that you keep up to date with certain vaccinations, including Tetanus. Our nurses will be happy to advise you. We also offer Hepatitis B and if this is for occupational health risks, the patient’s employer is responsible for the costs.
We are able to carry out private medicals for patients who require them. These can include HGV/Taxi driving or medicals for personal or insurance purposes. These are charged under the recommended BMA rate.
